Reason #1 - A Legendary Safety Reputation
Did you know that Subaru was the only automaker to
earn Top Safety Pick ratings from the Insurance
Institute
for Highway Safety for all of its models...for five straight years
(2010-2015)?
It's true, and it's a testament to Subaru's unwavering commitment to
safety
across its
entire lineup. This dedication can be found in technologies and features
like:
- Vehicle Dynamics Control
(VDC): VDC is a stability control system that automatically
detects
when you steer and break, and helps keep the vehicle on the intended
path.
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution
(EBD): Along with the standard Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS),
which
pulses braking power to prevent lockup, EBD provides the most ideal
distribution of braking force to the wheels depending on how the vehicle
is
loaded. In addition, Subaru's Brake Assist system helps apply maximum
braking
pressure as quickly as possible.
- Optimum visibility: With
reduced A-pillars, large windows, and an available rear-vision camera,
Subaru
vehicles are designed to give you the best view of your
surroundings.
Conscious design: Each Subaru
model features design cues that specifically influence the safety of the
vehicle. For instance, the passenger compartment provides high-impact
protection thanks to a ring-shape-reinforced frame, and the boxer
engine's
placement is designed to be driven under the chassis during a front-end
collision. Furthermore, an advanced airbag system provides protection
from up
to eight airbags, and models like Forester,
Outback,
and
Crosstrek
include
a rollover sensor.
- Advanced technology: Subaru's
EyeSight® is like an extra set of eyes on the road. The system
constantly scans
the road, warning the driver of possible dangerous situations, and even
applying the brakes when a collision appears imminent. When equipped
with
EyeSight, Forester, Impreza, Legacy, Outback, Crosstrek, and WRX models
all
earned the highest Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS. For extra
peace
of mind, SUBARU STARLINK Safety and Security offers Automatic Collision
Notification, SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance,
and more.
Reason #2 - Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive
The automotive industry is full of vehicles with
all-wheel drive (AWD), but we think it's important to make clear the
difference
between the competitions AWD, and Subaru's symmetrical
all-wheel drive.
The main distinction is that Subaru's symmetrical AWD is not adapted
from a
2-wheel drive system like most industry offerings. This results in
several
advantages including:
- Linear power is supplied to
all-wheels, instead of traveling through several 90-degree
turns in
an adapted system.
- Symmetrical all-wheel drive prevents
torque steer, while the unequal front drive shafts of adapted
systems
actually cause torque steer.
- Symmetrical all-wheel drive doesn't lose
power in the turns.
- Subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive system is
always on, ensuring better balance and control when
you need
it most. This is in contrast to the deceptively-named part-time systems
of
competitors like Ford (Intelligent 4WD), Nissan (Intuitive AWD), Toyota
(On-Demand 4WD), and Honda (Real Time 4WD).
Reason #3 - Subaru's boxer engine
Subaru's thoughtfully engineered boxer engine is crafted
to deliver an ideal balance of power and efficiency. Only Subaru and
Porsche
utilize this horizontally-opposed flat engine design,
which was
given the name boxer because of the simultaneous
in-and-out
movement of the piston pairs which brings to mind the gloves of a boxer
in the
ring. The boxer engine provides two distinct advantages over traditional
inline
and V-shaped engines.
- Smooth sailing: The
opposing action of the pistons cancels out vibrations, making the drive
even
more comfortable.
- Less wear and tear during engine
starts: Inline and V-type engines start dry, increasing the
friction at
startup, which can decrease the life of the engine. Due to the
positioning of
the pistons in a boxer engine, they are always below the oil line,
ensuring
constant lubrications, even during startup.

You Don't Have to Take Our Word for It
