Price

Both the Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V are affordable compact SUVs by most standards. The Forester, starting at $22,795, however, does beat out the CR-V price-wise by around $1,300. That's even more impressive when you consider that the Forester includes standard all-wheel-drive, a feature that you have to pay an additional $1,400 for, putting the total price differential between two comparably equipped Forester and CR-V SUVs at around $2,700 to start.

Performance

Both the CR-V and Forester come equipped with similar 4-cylinder engines as standard-fare. The base engine in the CR-V makes 184 horsepower, while the base engine in the Forester makes a lightly lesser 170 horsepower. Higher CR-V trims are available with a 190-horsepower turbocharged engine. If you want more power than that, you'll need to choose the Forester. Forester 2.0XT Premium and 2.0XT Touring models both come equipped the same turbocharged engine that makes 250 horsepower.

Fuel Efficiency

The Honda CR-V gets an EPA-estimated 26 MPG city/32 MPG highway. AWD-equipped models achieve 25 MPG city/31 MPG highway. The Forester, in contrast, gets and EPA-estimated 26 MPG city / 32 MPG highway with AWD.

Safety and Technology

The CR-V and Forester both come standard with rearview cameras, and can be equipped with active safety features galore. Subaru calls it's suite of safety features "EYESIGHT"; Honda's name is "Honda Sensing". Either SUV you choose, if equipped with its respective active safety feature bundles, will provide you access to safety technologies such as forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and much more.

Infotainment

The Forester and CR-V both come equipped with modern infotainment systems. While the standard system in the CR-V may be par for the course, with a 5-inch touchscreen, the Forester includes a system boasting a 6.2-inch touchscreen.
